Couperose

Capillaries are small delicate blood vessels with a thin cell wall that absorb nutrients and pass them on to the rest of the bloodstream. When this cell wall weakens, capillaries in the skin can expand, causing them to lose their function, become visible, and cause spots of a red, purple or blue color. Although these are not harmful to the body - after all, we have more than enough capillaries to sustain us - they can appear highly unflattering.

Light therapy

These lines or spots, called Couperose, do not disappear on their own, but will slowly worsen if left untreated. In the initial stages, irradiation with red and infrared LED light may be sufficient to stimulate collagen production in the cell walls and make the vessels stronger again. Next I can apply selective photothermolysis via IPL to cauterize the weakened capillaries, after which they will be absorbed and thereafter removed by the body, all whilst leaving the healthy capillaries untouched. Electrolysis

If the sate of your couperose is more advanced (for example due to UV damage) and clearly defined (spider) lines are already well apparent, it is possible that these two earlier mentioned techniques alone will not be sufficient to remove everything. In this situation I can apply Diathermy and carefully trace the lines with a needle to send an electric current through the remaining capillaries that still closes them. This procedure will become available with me from 2026 onward. Sterex SX-B

Aftercare

Prevention is usually the best cure, and Couperose is no different. This vascular disease can have many causes ranging from sun damage, old age, heredity, alcohol use to untreated Rosacea. Healthy and nourished skin will always be less sensitive or prone to deterioration than one that is often exposed to the sun unprotected, and my general skin improvement techniques will always give your vessels a strong protective boost.
