Electrolysis/Diathermy
Aesthetic diathermy is a process where we conduct a short electrical current through the body via a thin sterile probe. Depending on how and where we insert this 'needle' into the skin, we can achieve different goals. The most well-known is permanent hair removal by painstakingly destroying the growth cells in the shaft of the hair follicle, also called Electrolysis. Furthermore, this technology can be used to successfully treat skin imperfections such as skin tags, warts, burst veins and milia.Hair Removal
A modern electrolysis device has three working methods: The first (and oldest) uses alternating current to briefly burn the growth cells. This is very quick but does not work on hair with abnormal or curled roots. The second uses galvanic direct current to initiate a chemical reaction in the hair follicle. This is slow but the most effective. The third ('Blend') is a combination of the two previous methods, where heat is used to accelerate the effect of the galvanic current with an equivalent result.Applications
Seeing how we insert the probe directly into the hair shaft, leaving the surrounding skin untouched, electrolysis is a highly accurate and safe method of permanent hair removal that works on all hair colors and skin types. Since treating hair by hair is highly time-consuming, I only offer this for hairs that are difficult or impossible to remove with laser or VPL. These are: ear hair, nose hair, all gray/white hairs, and specific hairs that we want to remove to permanently shape eyebrows or beard. Skin Imperfections
The Sterex SX-B that I use allows me to determine all these previously mentioned settings stand by stand, which makes this machine also most suitable for use in skin-improving applications. I am however still in training for these advanced treatments. Since this is not an easy technique to learn and experienced diathermists are highly sought after, I like to take my time before obtaining my additional certificate from Sterex in Great Britain. But feel free to bring this up when you visit me, because I might just be looking for someone to practice on!
